Journal Entry #5: What kind of teacher do I aspire to be?

Returning to module 1, which asked me how I wanted to be remembered by my students, all of the core characteristics still hold firmly until now. I recall those characteristics of  a teacher who teaches quality education ,  a teacher who is kind yet fair , and  a teacher who is accommodating to his students . Now, I understand how to technically achieve these characteristics regarding the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPTST). Firstly, with  a teacher teaching quality education , this aspect encompasses Domain 1: Content and Pedagogy. To be able to teach quality information in whatever field I might pursue, I must learn specific strands of Domain 1, such as strand 1.1, or content knowledge and its application within and across curriculum areas; strand 1.2, or research-based expertise and principles of learning and teaching; strand 1.4, or strategies for promoting literacy and numeracy; and 1.5, or strategies for developing critical and creative thinking

Journal Entry #4: Promoting the Code of Ethics in Teaching via Online or Flexible Learning Modality

Though a teacher may have a pleasant disposition, there will always be some learners who pinpoint and ridicule the minuscule faults one has. Soon enough, fury and the thought of retaliation to defend oneself sweep away one's cheerful disposition. The teacher scolds the students on social media or reprimands them in public: the teacher and the student exchange nasty comments. Soon enough, other students or concerned observers take screenshots or videos of the teacher's actions, which they use as evidence against them in a court of law. This scenario is entirely avoidable if one has a go-to list on the teachers' professional code of ethics whenever such a scenario happens. If specific scenarios occur, the teacher can use that go-to list and proceed as calmly as possible. The teacher should expect that students will unavoidably ridicule them publicly, online or face-to-face, so they should write Section 7 Article 3 in their go-to list. If such a situation where a stu

Journal Entry #3: Why we Need to Uphold Legal Mandates in the Teaching Profession

Frequently, teachers in the Philippines become targets of the ire of students who unfairly judge them and school administrators who overburden them with work without proper compensation. Because of this, the teaching profession has become a less appealing career choice for aspiring professionals. But as an aspiring professional pedagogue, it is crucial for me to learn the laws that govern the teaching profession so that no person shall bully me in the classroom and professional setting, nor will I become an abuser of my authority and power as a teacher.           Concerning the laws and rights of teachers governed by the Magna Carta for Teachers, learning about compensatory entitlements and remunerations can be financially beneficial. The salary of teachers, even though there is a high demand for said teachers, is relatively low compared to the workload they get. Suppose a teacher notices that their commute to the school they teach is somewhat risky due to various factors,

Journal Entry #2: My Teaching Philosophy

As a student who aspires to be a teacher, I want to exude the qualities I expect from my instructors if I continue my pedagogical career. I want a  fun, engaging teaching style, a compassionate yet just demeanor, and technical competency.  What I love most about my teachers is how engaging they are in class and how much information I learn from that class; hence, I want my students to remember me by my unique teaching style. I also wish to be a benevolent instructor, such that I will not be a tyrant who churns students so hard that they end up hating me, but I also want to be just such that they will respect my boundaries. I also want to be technologically competent to use relevant computer applications for effective instruction.            I want my students to learn to think, exemplified by the  “Learning to Know”  pillar. I want them to be able to teach them how to think critically in solving problems. I want them to be able to apply theoretical information to practical,

Journal Entry #1: What qualities should I have as a 21st-Century Teacher?

Becoming a 21st-century teacher means adapting to the 4th Industrial Revolution, which means navigating various technologies while retaining traditional classroom characteristics.               The first characteristic I plan to employ is  technological proficiency . This proficiency entails that I must be able to navigate desktop and browser applications needed in the online classroom. One does not have to be a master of every technology out there but must be proficient in those necessary for teaching. I want to be able to answer whatever questions my students will have for me in terms of technology.         The following characteristics I want to embody are being  compassionate yet fair.  Students experience different types of adversity, which differ in quantity and intensity. And I must also understand that every student has different resiliency quotients. Some students can take many challenges in life, while others may falter from simple challenges. Some students may face
